Bio-tech startup Marinatex wins Brighton startup pitch competition
Following an exceptional standard of pitches at the Brighton startup roadshow, MarinaTex has been announced as the Sussex winner of Startup Roadshow 2024.
Founders, investors, and key stakeholders from the Sussex startup ecosystem came together in Brighton in February 2024 for the startup event as part of the Startup Roadshow 2024 series. The events, hosted by South East Angels, aim to showcase local startups and champion the startup ecosystem around the South East. Roadshow locations include, Brighton, Southampton, Tunbridge Wells, Guildford and London, with each event serving as a platform for entrepreneurs to connect with potential investors, gain exposure, and receive valuable feedback to propel their ventures forward.
The Brighton pitching competition featured 5 exciting startups from the local area covering a variety of industries. Winner of the event - MarinaTex, is a Brighton-based startup developing a new material from seafood waste and algae, designed as a planet-conscious alternative to plastic films. This new bioplastic material is a biodegradable flexible film that can serve multiple uses in the packaging industry, and is home compostable.
Kristina Pereckaite (South East Angels) says:
“It’s great to see the plethora of innovative companies there are here in our home town of Brighton. MarinaTex was chosen as our winner because Lucy delivered a super clear pitch that communicated the sheer size of the problem and opportunity for her business, as well as showing impressive progress on the product to date.”
"I am truly grateful to receive this recognition among such strong competition. MarinaTex's journey embodies our dedication to sustainable material innovation, and I am excited to continue our mission of creating positive change in the world." - Lucy, Founder & CEO of MarinaTex
